i was walking home down 17th near capp and heard this watery noise. like perhaps a hydrant was leaking. i see a glimmer of liquid by the parked cars in the street....coming from...and i look up to see some douchebag peeing from his window. i'm glad i looked before walking under this stream.

Memorial for Russell yesterday

Just wanted everyone to know yesterday at the Mission Neighborhood Resource Center (165 Capp) there was a memorial for Russell - he was was the 26th year old guy killed on Mission and 15th a couple weeks back.

Even after working as a nurse in this neighborhood for 3 years it sometimes takes an memorial where people have the opportunity to speak out -
to really see how much pain people are feeling in our neighborhood.

Howdy. Just thought I'd holler to introduce myself. I'm Daniel, and I'm moving with the wife to a place on the 900 block of Capp from the played-out tourist trap of the Upper Haight in a couple of weeks. I look forward to it. I look sorta like a less green and blurry version of this picture, so if you see something that looks like that in the neighborhood, it might be me. Feel free to say hi.

Crap Street cuadrilla

per CC, a non-Tribe friend: "A cuadrilla. In Basque country, most adults belong to an eating club, sometimes to the same one for life. Often the cuadrillas hit the town for an evening - stopping at their favorite places to eat one or two tapas and not more than one drink before moving on to the next."

Was delighted to find my humble Crap St. abode the first station on a recent round of cuadrilla-hopping. 18 people, all but one of them unknown to me, showed up during cocktail hour the other day, and filled my front room with the sound of prayerful toasts and sloshed tequila shots. Managed to foist a few dozen books on them as well, so a successful visit on many scores.

From here, three more stops and three courses (including dessert, vegan and non) awaited, all within a two block radius along Crap Street.

When I walked home today, I greeted a newly-met fellow cuadrillaist as she enjoyed a moment of late afternoon on her stoop near 25th St.

I know of two other cuadrilla communities operating between Crap and Folsom streets. Let a hundred cuadrillas bloom!

23rd/24th on Capp last night

I was supposed to be over at a friend's house. I was dragging my heels. Standing on the front porch smoking a cigarette, I hear this screeeech -- the familiar car going too fast down the street, except it's racing down Capp, turning the corner near El Trebol. No lights on. Comes to a screeeeching halt at the corner of 23rd/Capp. Plays chicken with a car that was at the corner already. Then proceeds to cross.

I put out my cigarette, go in the house. Then I hear the attendant bang-bang.

Please tell me those weren't gun shots.

Mural proposal

A couple of young women came door to door yesterday following up on their proposal to paint murals on two blocks of Lilac Alley. I introduced them to my landlady, and hope that they are successful in obtaining permission to proceed.

Capp St. in the movies ?

Last night they were filming a movie across the street from me (between 21st & 22nd).

The scene was a guy stopping a big car in front of the building across. Then picking up a big bag from the trunk and running up the stairs into building.

An old lady would scream through the window: "What's going on ! Are you crazy ?!".

Like anybody would react like that in Mission, just for somebody screaming their tires.

Anybody know which movie ?

Fortunately the suspects they were after were on the other side of the street - "Get your hands up" one ordered the two gangbangers who were attracting their unfavorable notice. "You don't really need that," he said on finding a weapon during the patdown. At least it wasn't an assault rifle....

just came from a party at my old capp apt. - saw 3 of my old roomies (out of the 5 i was close to). damn i miss them - some damn good people.

and i miss sitting on the window sill looking out/down on all the action, day and night; and someone always at the dining table, obsessively playing solitaire, waiting for anyone else to show up for endless rounds of gin and "oh hell"; and spontaneous brunches brimming with fruit and flowers and baked muffins ...

capp is a curious street. it really draws some cool people.

Found a kitten!

Hey Crapsters,

I found a kitten today right in front of my garage on Capp Street, between 24th & 25th. He's a young grey & white fella, definitely not feral, very loving and friendly. He's living in my tricked out garage right now with plenty of food, water, toys and comfy rugs. He's even listening to NPR and staying abreast of current events. He meowed when I played classical, but really likes Terry Gross. As you can see, he's a very topical kitten.

I posted some signs on my block and on Cypress Alley, so I'm on the lookout for its rightful owner.

If you know to whom this little kitten belongs, please PM me or I'll just have to keep the little fella and add him to my cat collection.

For the second time, I saw a woman selling tamales on Capp St. She sits in a driveway across from Latinos Liquors, and has had some day laborers remarking over her wares. So, I live on the 700 block. My third favorite burrito joint is on 24th between Mission & Capp. As I exit that particular restaurant tonight, I discover a handful of our boys in blue on the corner of Crap & 24th, with flashlights. This is not something I see that often on our block, but I see it fairly often at the 24th area, especially right behind that McDonald's. Then, as I walk home, along the 800 block of Crap, I begin to notice how much less street light is available.

What's up with that? An area where there is far more need for decent lighting has less than the neighboring blocks.
